Ms. Barnes took her almost tragic event and turned it around to help others. Laura Mallgreen of the Daily Transcript May 2004 describes the event like this - " T. J. Barnes heard neither the swishing of the skis nor the call, "To the right!" before the skier plowed into her.  Nor did she hear an inline skater's request to move aside a couple of weeks later -  passing her, the man spewed salvos at Barnes, who knew exactly what he was saying even though she couldn't hear a word he said. As she reads lips. She feels that if she were in a wheelchair or walking with a white cane she might have been given more consideration.  However, she and 35 million other Americans have an invisible disability.  This is why Barnes created the Hearing U Recognition Symbol, so that those with this disability will be given consideration as well. 

Ms. Barnes takes her expertise as a motivational speaker/trainer, communication specialist, consultant, certified life coach and healthcare professional to the market to help bridge the gap between the hearing and the hearing challenged.
